Rita Stanley came to TMI - The Episcopal School of Texas in 2003, a few years after relocating with her family from northern California to the San Antonio area.
Mrs. Stanley earned her bachelor’s degree in English from College of Mount St. Vincent on Hudson and her J.D. from Southwestern University School of Law. She holds Texas teacher certification in English for grades 8-12 and in American government. She accrued 27 graduate credits in English and Education prior to accepting her position at TMI.
Before she began her teaching career, she practiced criminal law in California for many years. Mrs. Stanley was a senior criminal prosecutor in the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office and later served as Assistant Director/Legislative Liaison of the California Department of Corrections and as Deputy Director of the California Office of Criminal Justice Planning.
She and her husband established and operated a small vineyard in the California Gold Country for several years, and enjoyed the opportunity to live in Great Britain for several years with their young son when her husband’s career as a P.E. metallurgical engineer led them there.
At TMI, she teaches English II Honors, AP English Language and Composition, AP American Government and Politics, and co-teaches Advanced Speech and Multimedia Presentation. She has taught the summer English Workshop class since 2004. Mrs. Stanley is also the sophomore form leader, a senior chapel talk coach and a former member of the Disciplinary Committee.
“Teaching truly is a life-enriching experience,” she says. “TMI is an incredible learning community of both very talented and dedicated faculty and highly motivated and delightful students. Readying students for colleges all over this country - and a few abroad - and personally hearing from so many long after they have graduated is a testament to how much our students appreciate what they receive here.”
In her spare time, Mrs. Stanley enjoys reading, gardening and travel, and most recently, trout-fishing and hiking with her husband in the Sierras and Rockies.
