Bob Ridewood came to TMI in 1999 after nearly 20 years of service at two other private schools, where, in addition to teaching history and English, he served as college counselor and dean of students. He holds bachelor’s degrees in English/History and in English Education and a Master of Humanities Education from Ohio State University. Additionally, he has completed everything but his dissertation while studying school administration at the University of Dayton.

At TMI Mr. Ridewood teaches Honors Ancient Civilization and has taught a history elective, America in the Sixties, as well as Modern Civilization, Philosophy and English Workshop.Throughout his teaching career, he has taught history and English at every grade level from sixth through twelfth grades.

As Head of Upper School, he says, “The most important thing to do is to get out of the office and find out what the kids are doing. Watching the students during their dramatic performances, while competing in athletics, and when engaging in school activities serves as a reminder of why we are here at TMI.” He looks forward to continued service “for the opportunity to impact the TMI experience favorably for students, teachers and parents, and because the people I come into contact daily are exceptionally talented and decent.”

Currently Coach of the freshman boys’ basketball team, Mr. Ridewood also has coached varsity tennis and varsity basketball and was named All-Star Basketball Coach in 2000 by the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools after leading the Panthers to a district championship.

Mr. Ridewood recently attended a workshop for division heads in Santa Fe, New Mexico.  Sponsored by the Independent Schools Association of the Southwest, the workshop was built around two concerns: emotional intelligence and technology in education.

He is a member of the National Association of Secondary School Principals and the Texas Association of College Admissions Counselors and has been a presenter at the TACAC Conference.

Born in Canada, Mr. Ridewood has lived in Sicily and spent time in other parts of the United States before coming to San Antonio. He has three children, including a son who graduated from TMI in 2001 and one who graduated in 2004.

His hobbies include reading educational works and fiction; he also loves music and enjoys attending concerts with his sons. Mr. Ridewood may be the only member of the TMI community who attended the original Woodstock Festival.
