Coates Hall 219 (210) 564-6210 paul.davis@tmi-sa.org
Paul K. Davis, Ph.D., is an internationally recognized author of military history who has published extensively and is consulted as a leading expert in his field.
Dr. Davis came to TMI in 2001 after teaching United States and world history at San Antonio College, the University of Texas at San Antonio and St. Mary’s University.
He earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in history from Texas State University and received his doctorate from King’s College, University of London.
At TMI, Dr. Davis has served as chair of the History Department and teaches U.S. History, U.S. History AP, world military history and U.S. military history. He also is faculty sponsor of TMI’s World War II Club, whose members research and discuss how the war affected the modern world. He has been a member of TMI’s Academic Policy Committee and is a past sponsor of the school’s chapter of Students Against Drunk Driving.
For someone who had not taught previously on the high-school level, Dr. Davis says, “I find myself constantly amazed at how often I bond with my students, and how many keep touch with me after they graduate.”
He has published five reference works on military history, including 100 Decisive Battles and Besieged: Great Sieges from Ancient Times to the Present, both from Oxford University Press, as well as numerous articles for other reference works and papers presented at academic conferences. Dr. Davis also has been consulted as a guest expert by the BBC and National Public Radio.
He is at work on a book about great battlefield commanders, scheduled for publication by Oxford University Press (USA) in late 2011.
