Cory Anglin came to TMI - The Episcopal School of Texas in 2008, after teaching English at the Chinquapin School near Houston, Texas.

Mr. Anglin received his bachelor’s degree in English from Southwestern University and his master’s in liberal arts from St. John’s College in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

At TMI, he has taught English I and II, Contemporary Short Story and Creative Writing. At his previous school, he taught English and Film as Literature while also coaching several students to state championships in basketball, cross country and track.

“I’ve always had an affinity for books,” he says, crediting his father and early teachers for encouraging him to read. Among his childhood favorites were the Chronicles of Narnia series and the Lord of the Rings trilogy. In college, he acquired a zest for the classics in literature, commenting that, “They lent themselves well to a young man trying to discover the world and the human condition.“ He also studied the classics of philosophy, mathematics, science and politics in graduate school and favors early thinkers (Euclid, Plato, Lucretius, Augustine) for their understanding and appreciation of foundational truths, as well as later writers (Dante, Dostoevsky, Chekhov,  C.S. Lewis and Willa Cather) for their descriptions of reality, beauty and love.

As an avid runner, he says the sport is a good combination with teaching: “When I run, I’m free with my thoughts and am able to escape any troubles during the day through meditation, bewilderment in nature and prayers of thanks.”

Mr. Anglin chose teaching “because I feel it helps people’s lives, mine included, and it’s a way for me to immerse myself in something I enjoy with a servant’s heart.”
